❤ CPR (Adult)
Call 911 first, then:1. Push hard and fast on center of chest
2. 100-120 compressions/minute (beat of "Stayin' Alive")
3. Push at least 2 inches deep
4. Allow full chest recoil between compressions
5. If trained: 30 compressions, 2 rescue breaths, repeat
6. Continue until help arrives or AED available
Hands-only CPR is effective - don't delay!
🫁 Choking (Heimlich)
Adult/Child (conscious):1. Stand behind victim, wrap arms around waist
2. Make fist, place thumb side against stomach above navel
3. Grasp fist with other hand
4. Quick upward thrusts until object expelled
Infant:
1. Hold face-down on forearm, head lower than body
2. 5 back blows between shoulder blades
3. Turn over, 5 chest thrusts with 2 fingers
4. Repeat until clear or unconscious
Yourself: Lean over chair back and thrust
🩸 Severe Bleeding
1. Call 9112. Apply direct PRESSURE with clean cloth
3. Press HARD - don't peek or change cloths
4. Add more material on top if soaking through
5. Keep pressing until help arrives (10+ minutes)
Tourniquet (life-threatening limb bleeding):
- 2-3 inches above wound (not on joint)
- Tighten until bleeding stops
- Note the time applied
- Do NOT remove once applied
🔥 Burns
Minor burns:- Cool with running water 10-20 minutes
- Do NOT use ice, butter, or toothpaste
- Cover with sterile bandage
Severe burns (call 911):
- Cover with clean, dry cloth
- Do NOT remove stuck clothing
- Do NOT break blisters
- Elevate burned area if possible
Chemical burns: Flush with water 20+ minutes
☀ Heat Emergencies
Heat Exhaustion:- Heavy sweating, cool/pale skin, fast pulse
- Nausea, headache, dizziness
- Move to cool place, loosen clothes
- Cool cloths, small sips of water
Heat Stroke (EMERGENCY - call 911):
- Hot, red skin (may be dry OR sweaty)
- High body temp (103°F+), confusion
- Rapid pulse, may lose consciousness
- Cool rapidly: ice packs to neck, armpits, groin
- Do NOT give fluids if unconscious
❄ Cold Emergencies
Hypothermia:- Shivering, confusion, slurred speech
- Move to warm place, remove wet clothing
- Warm center of body first (chest, neck, head)
- Warm drinks if conscious (no alcohol)
- Body-to-body contact under blankets
Frostbite:
- White/grayish skin, numbness
- Do NOT rub or use direct heat
- Warm in lukewarm water (100-105°F)
- Don't walk on frostbitten feet if avoidable
🧠 Stroke - Act FAST
F - Face drooping (ask them to smile)A - Arm weakness (raise both arms)
S - Speech difficulty (repeat simple phrase)
T - Time to call 911
Note the time symptoms started - critical for treatment
💔 Heart Attack
Signs:- Chest pain/pressure (may spread to arm, jaw, back)
- Shortness of breath, cold sweat
- Nausea, lightheadedness
- Women: may have different symptoms (fatigue, nausea)
Action:
- Call 911 immediately
- Chew aspirin if not allergic (325mg or 4 baby aspirin)
- Rest in comfortable position
- Be ready to do CPR
⚠ Severe Allergic Reaction (Anaphylaxis)
Signs:- Swelling of face, lips, throat
- Difficulty breathing, wheezing
- Hives, rash, itching
- Rapid heartbeat, dizziness
Action:
- Call 911
- Use epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen) if available
- Inject into outer thigh (through clothing OK)
- Lay flat with legs raised (unless breathing difficult)
⚡ Seizure
During:- Clear area of hazards
- Cushion head if possible
- Do NOT restrain or put anything in mouth
- Time the seizure
After:
- Turn on side (recovery position)
- Stay until fully alert
Call 911 if: First seizure, >5 minutes, injury, pregnant, diabetic, no recovery
🩺 Diabetic Emergency
Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia):- Shaking, sweating, confusion, irritability
- Give sugar: juice, candy, glucose tablets
- Do NOT give insulin
High blood sugar (hyperglycemia):
- Frequent urination, extreme thirst
- Fruity breath, nausea
- Call 911 if confused or vomiting
When in doubt: Give sugar (won't hurt if high)
💊 Overdose
Signs:- Unresponsive, slow/stopped breathing
- Blue lips/fingertips, gurgling sounds
- Pinpoint pupils (opioids)
Action:
- Call 911 (Good Samaritan laws protect you)
- Give Narcan/Naloxone if available (nasal spray)
- Start CPR if not breathing
- Turn on side if breathing but unconscious
- Stay until help arrives
🐍 Snakebite
- Call 911 or get to hospital- Keep calm, limit movement
- Remove jewelry near bite (swelling)
- Keep bite below heart level
- Do NOT: cut, suck, tourniquet, ice
- Try to remember snake appearance
🌊 Drowning
Rescue safely: Reach, Throw, Row, Go (last resort)- Get victim out of water
- Call 911
- Start CPR immediately if not breathing
- Do NOT try to drain water from lungs
- Even if seems OK, get medical evaluation
